Pulsant’s Manchester’s data center gears up for expansion with £4.5 million investment

Pulsant, a UK data center and edge infrastructure provider, recently announced a £4.5 million (roughly $5.6 million) investment in its Manchester data center. According to the company, the investment is part of its ongoing commitment to providing colocation services and regional data center access.

The facility’s Data Hall 4 expansion will increase its size by 320m2 to expand capacity by 30%. Clients will have on-site access to LINX peering services and ten global clouds via three Megaport nodes provided by Pulsant across the UK.

Ben Cranham, COO at Pulsant, says: “For regional businesses to thrive, they need access to a high bandwidth and low latency interconnection network. This investment in Manchester extends our commitment to support the growing technology demand for regional data center access and colocation services across the North West.”

The data center, near Manchester city center, aims to drive business innovation and expansion in the North West UK. It offers connectivity through Pulsant’s national network and connectivity partners. The investment in platformEDGE is set to increase IT capacity by 300kW and upgrade connectivity and cooling systems.

Cranham acknowledges the influence of the move on Manchester’s digital strategy, paving the way for the city to emerge as a top digital economy in the next five years.

Lee Jones, head of infrastructure at Frontline Consultancy, adds: “We’ve built a great relationship with the Manchester team and now consider them a partner as they provide us with all the key services required to allow us to provide excellent levels of service to our customers.”

Pulsant says it is committed to sustainable business operations and has set near-term carbon reduction targets approved by the SBTi. The company aims to achieve Net Zero emissions by the year 2050. As part of their efforts, the Manchester facility will trial a non-palm oil-derived HVO biofuel for standby power generators and eliminate the use of FM200 fire suppression gas by 2030.

Pulsant also recently invested an additional £3 million in platformEDGE and expanded its Rotherham data center capacity by 116% to 380kW.

Pulsant’s PlatformEdge, an edge computing platform unveiled earlier this year, aims to empower regional UK businesses with the tools to embrace digital transformation.
