Nexcom launches Intel-powered 5G uCPE for MEC

Taiwanese network hardware company Nexcom announced the release of a universal Customer Premises Equipment (uCPE) for 5G applications like multi-access edge computing (MEC) using Intel’s Atom processors.

Nexcom’s FTA 1170 is a 1U rackmount that accommodates a variety of port types and link speeds for ethernet connectivity, according to a press release. It features an Intel Atom processor with a built-in MAC and Intel QuickAssist Technology (QAT) for crypto acceleration.

For wireless connectivity, the FTA 1170 supports Wi-Fi 5/6, 4G, and 5G. As for wired connectivity, it carries 24 2.5GbE switch copper ports, four 10GbE copper and fiber ports, and one expansion slot for a LAN module.

The company says its latest uCPE will help meet demand from enterprises switching over to 5G private networks and offers ease of deployment, expanded functionality, and flexibility.

In March, Nexcom released a 5G uCPE in collaboration with Telco Systems.
