Atos wins multi-year contract to modernize Lumen mainframe

Atos has been chosen by telecommunications company Lumen Technologies to modernize its mainframe services in a multi-year agreement.

Michael Grunberg, CEO of Tech Foundations at Atos North America, believes modernizing Lumen’s mainframe will bolster security and flexibility and support business transformation objectives.

“We look forward to deepening the relationship and creating opportunities to extend our collaboration in the future,” says Grunberg.

Atos offers Lumen a scalable mainframe-as-a-service solution that provides computing power, service management and innovation. Consumption-based charging allows for flexible capacity adjustments. Atos also provides 24/7 support, monitoring and operations.

Lumen and Atos will migrate mainframe workloads to Atos’ Hub in carefully phased steps to maintain service levels throughout the process.

Chad Naeger, Lumen’s CIO, highlights the mainframe’s importance as a central computing backbone for business operations.

Emphasizing stability and security, he explains how the mainframe plays a vital role in supporting their operations.

“We have entrusted Atos to modernize our Mainframe environment, confident in their expertise, experience, and ability to propel our transformation goals,” Nager elaborates.

Atos is a global IBM platinum and strategic business partner with over 45 years of mainframe experience. For two consecutive years, it has been recognized as a mainframe leader by Information Services Group (ISG). Atos specializes in digital transformation in cybersecurity, cloud and high-performance computing.

Tech Foundations, a business line of the Atos Group, specializes in managed services for hybrid cloud infrastructure, employee experience and technology services.

Lumen says it connects people, data and applications with network infrastructure solutions, including metro connectivity, edge cloud and managed services.

According to a 2023 IDC survey commissioned by Lumen Technologies and Intel, businesses that invested in edge solutions have seen significant improvements in customer experiences, product and service quality, and productivity.

The survey results reveal that over half of the respondents (54%) currently utilize edge solutions in production, with an even higher percentage (64%) planning to make new investments within a year.

Service provider/telco edge locations are the primary deployment sites, resulting in enhanced customer experience, improved productivity, and higher quality products and services. Respondents reported 26%, 23% and 22% improvements in these areas, respectively.
