WANdisco enables mass migration of IoT data with ‘Edge to Cloud’ offering

WANdisco announced a new data migration solution to enable the continuous transfer of sensor data across edge systems, on-premise data centers, and public cloud environments.  WANdisco’s “Edge to Cloud” is built on the company’s existing Data Activation Platform to solve data silo challenges enterprises are facing.

According to WANdisco, a massive amount of sensor data is trapped at the edge,  limiting the value proposition of edge computing solutions. An enterprise that requires scaling of edge capabilities also needs every sensor-generated data point to add business value, especially since companies are investing heavily in edge infrastructure, according to research firm IDC. The WANdisco Edge to Cloud enables the edge ecosystem to be directly connected with IoT data storage and cloud-based AI and machine learning-powered analytics.

“Making sense of all your IoT data is the business opportunity of a generation. It’s what will turn companies in sectors like manufacturing, telecommunications, energy and utilities, healthcare, and automotive into data companies,” said David Richards, co-founder and CEO of WANdisco.

According to IoT Analytics’ State of IoT 2022, the number of connected IoT devices is growing 18% year over year to reach a total of 14.4 billion active connections globally. To make use of sensor data, enterprises are spending millions of dollars to efficiently and effectively migrate information to edge data centers that can analyze and provide insights and recommendations. The company claims WANdisco Edge to Cloud is capable of moving multiple petabytes of data per day.

The WANdisco Edge to Cloud features automation, scalability, and flexibility to enable enterprises to automate the movement of IoT data across edge systems that can be scaled to handle any data size and the flexibility to move data to any public cloud. The solution also takes advantage of available network bandwidth to be scaled across remote locations.

Other features include the browser-based user interface to manage the data movement process that enables operations from a single management console. The self-service user interface allows enterprises to quickly configure and manage the source and target environment and control which dataset to activate to the cloud.

“WANdisco’s ability to move petabytes of data without interrupting production and without risk of losing the data mid-flight is something no other vendor does,” said Merv Adrian, Vice President of Data and Analytics at Gartner Research.
