Ventana, Imagination unite to enhance RISC-V CPU & GPU solutions

Ventana Micro Systems Inc and Imagination Technologies have partnered to offer RISC-V system-on-a-chip (SoC) solutions.

According to both companies, the collaboration benefits customers in various industries, including data centers, automotive, 5G, AI and client applications.

Ventana notes that its Veyron solution, which features a RISC-V CPU processor, will be integrated with Imagination’s GPU intellectual property (IP). This combination will be offered as integrated IP in SoCs or as separate GPU chips/cards.

Ventana’s CEO, Balaji Baktha, explains: “We are witnessing strong interest from customers to adopt RISC-V in client and automotive applications. Our partnership with Imagination allows us to address these needs by providing complete platform solutions consisting of industry-leading Veyron CPUs from Ventana and market-leading GPUs from Imagination.”

Balaji Baktha adds that Imagination’s GPUs are known for their performance and efficiency, particularly in automotive, industrial and client applications. He says the partnership between the two companies will facilitate new possibilities for innovation and differentiation.

The collaboration also aims to benefit client operating systems in markets like mobile and automotive, reducing risks and time to market.

Imagination Technologies CEO Simon Beresford-Wylie states: “By integrating Imagination’s extensive experience in GPUs with Ventana’s high-performance RISC-V CPUs, we are wholeheartedly committed to accelerating RISC-V adoption for customers in the mobile and automotive sectors.”

Ventana Micro Systems Inc and Imagination Technologies, also members of RISC-V and the RISC-V Ecosystem Project (RISE), say they are committed to fostering innovation through an open architecture approach.

Elsewhere, Bluespec recently introduced a customizable processor design based on the open-standard RISC-V instruction set architecture, enabling tailored workload execution on edge systems.

According to Bluespec, the MCUX processor builds upon the current range of RISC-V processors for MCUs, providing developers with increased flexibility to customize instructions and integrate accelerators into FPGA and ASIC designs.

Bluespec says it enables customers to optimize hardware solutions by leveraging extensions and accelerators. The compact MCUX processor reduces resource consumption, while an application note guides customers in implementing custom instructions.
