Tonaquint Data Centers acquires EdgeX to expand US presence
Tonaquint Data Centers, a data center provider offering colocation, cloud, backup, disaster recovery and network-as-a-service solutions, has added a site to its portfolio in the United States. The company says this acquisition expands Tonaquint’s geographic footprint and extends its portfolio into the Oklahoma City market and adjacent markets.
Willem Jansonius, a partner at DIF Capital Partners, an infrastructure fund manager, and a Tonaquint board member, says, “This acquisition is a great step towards further building out the Tonaquint platform and expanding into underserved markets. Data centers form an important part of DIF’s investment strategy. We believe the investment offers substantial opportunities for value enhancement in the coming years, combined with reliable cash flows from high-quality contracts.”
The EdgeX facility is a Tier III data center near Will Rogers World Airport with 65,000 square feet and two 10,000 square foot data halls. Designed to withstand tornado-force winds of up to 310 mph, the company says it offers 100% uptime for customers.
Tonaquint plans to commission a minimum of 2.5 MW of critical IT load, via a phased approach, in the first year of operations. With an expansion capability of up to 12MW, the company notes that the EdgeX facility holds significant future growth potential.
Tonaquint, established in 2008, provides solutions to mid-market organizations in the Mountain West and Southwest regions of the United States. It was acquired by DIF Capital Partners in December 2022.
As part of the EdgeX acquisition, co-founder and CTO Terry Morrison will join Tonaquint as COO and CTO. Matt Hamlin, CEO of Tonaquint notes that “this transaction will enable Tonaquint to accelerate its growth and expand the service offering to our clients.”
John Parsons, the co-founder of EdgeX, adds that they are “thrilled to be able to bring EdgeX together with Tonaquint and are excited about continuing to work with them to extend the capabilities of the Tonaquint platform into the very vibrant Oklahoma City market.”
