Telenor Sweden, Nokia team up to offer private wireless, network slicing for 5G services
In collaboration with Nokia, Telenor has introduced two new services that leverage its 5G connectivity capabilities. The first service is customer-specific mobile private networks, allowing enterprises access to a dedicated, customized, secure mobile network solution.
According to the companies, this offering improves operational efficiency and oversees fleets of devices installed at remote edge locations for mission-critical tasks.
The second service involves implementing its first-generation network slicing. Network slicing refers to dividing a physical network into multiple virtual networks, allowing each one to be optimized for specific use cases. As a result, there will be better resource allocation, improved performance and a customized network experience, the companies say.
“The network modernization we are carrying out now is of historic proportions and a prerequisite for the technology shift and future-proof services. It is more important than ever that we, together with our customers, develop new solutions where tests, feedback, and dialogue become decisive,” says Malina Borg Sigg, a 5G expert at Telenor Sweden.

Telenor believes that mobile private 5G networks provide a reliable and secure connection with reduced latency.
These networks are widely used across various industries. For instance, in the healthcare sector, they can help place equipment within hospitals or analyze video data in surveillance systems.
Nokia claims it has successfully deployed 2600 mission-critical networks for enterprise customers spanning industries, such as transportation, energy, manufacturing, and public sectors. Further, the company supports over 500 customers with tailored private network solutions.

Telenor and Nokia have a history of collaboration. For example, they previously worked together in Denmark to conduct a 5G mobile network trial.
