Red Hat and Tyrrell advance real-time industrial automation at the edge

Red Hat, a provider of open source solutions, and Tyrrell Products have partnered to enhance industrial automation using Red Hat Device Edge and Intel processors.

The collaboration aims to create a smart building and industrial automation controller, starting with the IONA-XP platform. The solution addresses challenges in industrial automation, such as real-time performance, reliability, and cybersecurity.

It supports emerging technologies like AI, data aggregation, and computer vision for improved operational efficiency.

The platform offers a pre-tuned environment for mission-critical workloads with consistent performance and facilitates smart building applications through better integration of controls and energy management.

“With the advent of edge computing and intelligent workloads, there has been a shift in the industrial sector over the years to bridge the gap between IT and OT, breaking down organizational silos and replacing outdated, limiting industrial controls,” says Francis Chow, vice president and general manager, In-Vehicle Operating System and Edge, Red Hat. “This collaboration with Tyrrell Products and Intel aims to deliver a fully integrated, flexible industrial automation control system that is able to scale a wide spectrum of edge deployments, whether it’s on the shop floor or smart building applications.”

Enhanced security features are included to protect critical operations and data. The system is designed for scalability and flexibility, suitable for various edge computing deployments.

Earlier this year Red Hat launched advanced OpenShift AI platform for hybrid cloud environments.
