Nokia, Globaldata survey highlights the ROI of private wireless networks

Nokia has revealed the findings of a survey conducted to determine the effect private wireless networks have on enterprise operations. According to the survey, over half of the respondents reported cost cuts since they installed the technology. At the same time, over 79% expected or already saw a return on investment (ROI) within six months.

The research, conducted by GlobalData, surveyed 79 IT decision-makers at multinational corporations across various sectors to document the current landscape of private wireless enterprise networks. The company says that enterprises are adopting private wireless solutions as they look for an efficient, secure and cost-effective way of carrying out their mission-critical operations.

John Marcus, the principal analyst at GlobalData said: “Faced with a volatile global economy, many enterprises are choosing to digitally transform operations to achieve their strategic objectives.”

The survey found that many businesses see private wireless as an ROI-positive technology that supports mission-critical operations. Results demonstrate a deep conviction in private wireless and industrial edge.

For businesses that have implemented the technology, more than half experienced a decrease in the total cost of ownership (TCO) amounting to 6% or higher. Even better, almost 30 percent of respondents noted a decrease exceeding 10%, the survey results say.

Using enhanced sensors and data analytics to gain insights has enabled enterprises to improve their internal metrics, such as reducing downtime and energy consumption. Many have seen more than 20 percent improvement in these areas. Additionally, the subscription-based pricing model for private wireless services is preferred by most respondents.

Stephan Litjens, VP of Nokia Enterprise Solutions, said: “We wanted to gain a deeper insight into customer behaviors and drivers around and beyond private wireless. Working with GlobalData, we uncovered data that confirms our approach of delivering one pre-integrated platform for industrial digitalization is preferred by enterprises.”

Last month, Nokia’s collaboration with Flex Brazil made headlines as they leveraged 5G standalone private wireless networks and Industry 4.0 proficiency to construct a smart and secure ecosystem.
