Lattice Semiconductor, Nvidia team up to propel edge AI forward

At the Lattice Developers Conference, Lattice Semiconductor, a provider of low-power programmable devices and software stacks, unveiled a sensor-bridging design. This solution aims to expedite the advancement of edge AI applications on the Nvidia Jetson Orin and IGX Orin platforms.

The open-source reference board, which utilizes Lattice FPGAs and Nvidia Orin, addresses developers’ needs regarding sensor connectivity, design scalability and low latency in high-performance edge AI applications. The collaboration between Lattice and Nvidia aims to optimize the efficiency of connecting sensors to edge AI compute applications.

According to Esam Elashmawi, the chief strategy and marketing officer at Lattice Semiconductor, the partnership will accelerate the transformation of various industries, including manufacturing, transportation, communications and medical instruments.

“We are excited to work with Nvidia to extend the reach of our reference solutions,” Elashmawi adds.

According to Nvidia’s director of embedded AI product management, Amit Goel, developers increasingly integrate sensors with Nvidia edge computing platforms as companies increasingly seek real-time insights and autonomous decision-making.

“This collaboration with Lattice will accelerate innovations in sensor processing and help simplify the deployment of edge-to-cloud AI applications,” says Amit Goel, the director of embedded AI product management at Nvidia.

The Lattice FPGA-based reference board is now accessible for early-access customers. Lattice intends to expand availability to a broader audience, along with application examples, by the first half of 2024.

This March, Lattice Semiconductor announced updates to its Lattice Automate and Lattice sensAI products. These enhancements aim to offer intelligent factory automation and AI-based machine vision advantages for industrial operations.

The company says Lattice Automate provides enterprise customers with tools to evaluate, develop and deploy FPGA-based applications, including support for implementing FreeRTOS RISC-V CPU on Certus Pro-NX FPGA. This support allows developers to run FreeRTOS on a RISC-V CPU using the FPGA.
