Kubermatic Raises $6 million to further development of Kubernetes Platform

Kubermatic has received a $6 million investment led by Nauta Capital with participation from Celonis co-founders Bastian Nominacher and Martin Klenk, highlighting the growing use of Kubernetes in both core and edge cloud application development.

Writing in a press release, the company said it will utilize the funds to improve open-source acceptability, grow the company’s client base, and accelerate the product development of the Kubermatic Kubernetes Platform (KKP).

Kubernetes are already widely utilized for managing containerized workloads. According to a new study, the technology’s popularity will soon spread to edge computing environments as well, driven by artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning (ML) applications by companies interested to deploy them at the edge, and closest to their data source.

“Over the last five years, we have seen Kubernetes become the leading technology for container orchestration,” explained Guillem Sague, Partner at Nauta Capital.

“Kubermatic has been an early adopter and is one of the main contributors to the Kubernetes project. Therefore we are excited to partner with a European OSS company that is a front runner in their industry,” Sague added.

“Among our enterprise customers, I can observe that container technologies and Kubernetes are becoming the standard for multi-cloud, hybrid-cloud and edge strategies to modernize existing IT infrastructures,” said Celonis CTO Martin Klenk.

“I strongly expect Kubernetes to prevail for all mission-critical enterprise applications in the medium term,” he concluded.

Kubermatic has been involved in bringing its Kubernetes experience to projects such as 5G Open Innovation Lab (5G OI Lab), a global ecosystem of developers, enterprises, academia and government institutions

Several companies have been active with news around Kubernetes technologies in the past few months, including Rafay Systems, Equinix, and Deutsche Telekom.
