Comcast utilizes edge computing to elevate streaming and standardize content delivery

Comcast, a global media and technology company is deploying Qwilt’s Open Edge platform to enhance its content delivery network (CDN) and improve streaming and gaming experiences for consumers.

The initiative aims to bring more computing power closer to users, resulting in faster, more responsive internet services.

The deployment aims to create the most distributed CDN in the U.S., optimizing content delivery quality and efficiency for both consumers and content providers.

“By deploying distributed access architecture and virtualization, we are putting the brains of our network closer to customers and paving the way for opportunities like this deployment with Qwilt,” said Elad Nafshi, Chief Network Officer, Comcast. “We’re tapping into the incredible power of edge compute to build a leading content delivery network that provides incredible benefits to our customers and to the providers who distribute content across our network.”

Comcast’s collaboration with Qwilt utilizes Open Caching technology, which is designed to improve content delivery through a standardized platform. A set of open specifications developed by the Streaming Video Technology Alliance (SVTA) through an extensive, nine-year collaboration across the entire streaming value chain enabling the best quality of content delivery seamlessly.

This move positions Comcast to meet the growing demand for high-quality streaming services and supports a vast network of nearly 200 partners in the content delivery ecosystem.
