Cologix expands edge footprint with new hyperscale data center in Virginia
Cologix, a network-neutral interconnection and hyperscale edge data center business, has recently announced the successful completion and pre-leasing of its new 120 MW Scalelogix data center in Northern Virginia. According to company executives, this facility is one of North America’s largest data centers.
The Scalelogix ASH1 data center is located in Ashburn, Virginia, spanning 455,000 square feet. It was constructed within seven months and became operational in May 2023. The company says it has been pre-leased by a global technology company and is designed for hyperscalers’ massive capacity and edge traffic demands.
“We’re aggressively expanding our hyperscale edge portfolio across North America in response to growing demand from major global cloud providers and large digital enterprises,” says Cologix chief revenue officer Chris Heinrich.
Located in “Data Center Alley“, Cologix says the data center will provide customers with access to colocation and connectivity services in this data corridor. Cologix plans to launch three more Scalelogix centers in Columbus, OH and Montreal, Canada, over the next year.
“Many positive factors contributed to the project’s successful and efficient timeline, including transparent partnerships and communications with all parties involved every step of the way,” says Cologix’s chief development officer Nathan Hazelwood.
Cologix provides cloud- and carrier-neutral hyperscale data centers and services in 11 markets across North America. The company says it serves as an interconnection hub for cloud service providers, carriers and partners who want to deploy applications at the edge.
Last September, Cologix was in the news for announcing an investment of over $150 million to expand its existing data center campus in the Columbus, Ohio, region. Cologix said the expansion would add 36MW of power capacity, create 39 new jobs and help meet the growing demand for cloud connectivity.
