V.tal sets up second edge data center in Fortaleza, Brazil

V.tal’s new edge data center connects to the company’s undersea cable landing station, which the company says is a crucial part of Brazil’s internet infrastructure as it serves as the central exchange point for internet traffic in the northeast state of Ceara. This technology enables operators across Brazil to exchange traffic and access content from major streaming platforms.

“With the kick-off of the new edge data center complex, V.tal consolidates itself as an ecosystem of neutral infrastructure solutions that provides its customers with robustness, resilience, redundancy, capillarity and very low latency,” said Cícero Olivieri, the vice president of engineering at V.tal.

V.tal operates four edge data centers — two in Fortaleza, one in Rio de Janeiro and another in Barranquilla, Colombia. These platforms interconnect through 26 thousand kilometers of undersea optical cables that run across Brazil to reach Argentina, Venezuela, Colombia, Bermuda and the United States.

V.tal says its recently built edge data center in Fortaleza and the cable landing station infrastructure have been certified under ISO 27001, a standard for managing colocation services. This certification allows the company to offer permanent availability of its connectivity, security and monitoring services.

“V.tal will invest to expand its data center park, as it complements its capillarity and footprint in all Brazilian regions, in addition to meeting the present and future requirements of its customers, due to innovations and new technologies that have been emerging,” said Eduardo Silveira, the vice president of strategy at V.tal.
