Tofane acquires Simfony to further IoT and edge applications

Communications solutions expert Tofane Global has completed the acquisition of Internet of Things (IoT) Platform-as-a-Service (PaaS) provider Simfony, the company announced.

The move will see Simfony’s Connectivity Management Platform for embedded SIMs (eSIMs) to be integrated within Tofane’s iBASIS, the company’s IoT portfolio.

The platform leverages Software Defined Network (SDN) and Network Functions Virtualization (NFV) technologies to ensure rapid time-to-market and elasticity for an unlimited number of connected devices.

The integration will offer iBASIS customers a series of eSIM-related services, including online ordering, provisioning, product catalog, device lifecycle control, trouble ticketing, online rating, billing, and account profitability.

The transaction marks the sixth acquisition in four years for Tofane. Thanks to it, iBASIS is now adding a technology development center in Romania as well as strengthening its operations in the Netherlands (where Simfony is headquartered).

“After establishing ourselves as a leader through acquisitions in international voice (2018), mobile roaming (2019), and messaging (2020), today’s announcement is an exciting step for us in the world of Internet of Things,” explained the company’s CEO, Alexandre Pébereau.

“By adding Simfony to the Tofane family, we are moving up the value chain to the management layer, fast-tracking our plans of becoming an independent single-source enabler of global IoT connectivity services.”

As part of the agreement, the Simfony team will join iBASIS but will reportedly remain a separate entity.

“We are very excited about joining iBASIS, particularly after working successfully together over the past few years on our global eSIM connectivity partnership,” commented Simfony CEO Joachim de Wild.

“We are thrilled for our employees and customers as this acquisition opens a new era of possibilities and growth. iBASIS’ expertise and capabilities are undisputed and we’re looking forward to further addressing our customer needs together.”
