T-Mobile introduces SIM-based SASE solution to improve network security for businesses

T-Mobile, a wireless connectivity solution provider, has introduced a Secure Access Service Edge (SASE) solution aimed at addressing the growing challenges faced by IT and security teams in safeguarding their networks, applications, and data from cyber threats. The network management and security platform, T-Mobile SASE, incorporates two new features – T-SIMsecure and T-Mobile Security Slice.

In partnership with Versa Networks, T-Mobile has developed T-SIMsecure, which leverages important information from SIM cards – the International Mobile Subscriber Identity (IMSI) and International Mobile Equipment Identity (IMEI), to enable clientless authentication. This means that devices connecting to T-Mobile’s network are automatically authorized via their SIM cards, simplifying the authentication process for IT and security teams.

The security solution introduces T-Mobile Security Slice using T-Mobile’s 5G standalone network that can be divided into multiple virtual networks or slices. Each of these network slices can be configured independently to meet specific application and service requirements. Users of T-Mobile SASE with 5G SA-enabled devices will have the ability to take advantage of this dedicated network slice for reduced latency and faster data speeds, according to the company.

“T-Mobile SASE with T-SIMsecure and Security Slice is yet another example of innovation being delivered to our business and government customers. Not only does this complement and expand our security portfolio to offer protection for corporate networks, applications, and data — it also reinforces our commitment to leverage our 5G leadership for good,” says Callie Field, president at T-Mobile Business Group.

In addition to these features, the T-Mobile SASE solution offers Private Access, which aims to secure connectivity for large-scale business applications. The company says it employs a Zero Trust Network Access (ZTNA) approach to virtual private networking.

T-Mobile SASE includes Secure Internet Access, for protection of internet-connected devices against cyber threats, the company notes. The protection is said to include functionalities such as web filtering, safeguards for Software as a Service (SaaS) applications, and IT network security with a firewall.

Earlier this year, T-Mobile joined forces with Google Cloud to combine 5G connectivity and edge computing technologies.
