Sunlight.io releases NexVisor update to facilitate management of distributed edge deployments
Sunlight.io has upgraded its Sunlight NexVisor software, saying the update is designed to facilitate the management of large, distributed edge deployments, while also protecting data being generated by differing device types.
The Sunlight NexVisor HCI Stack and Infrastructure Manager (SIM) version 4.0 SIM enables applications of vastly different sizes to be deployed on both x86 and ARM infrastructures, the company said. The edge HCI platform is delivered via a subscription model and includes various centralized management tools, as well as access to the AWS marketplace.
“The edge is exploding — driven by new applications that both generate and consume vast amounts of data,” said Athanasios Zografos, VP of Engineering at Sunlight.
“But the new challenge at the edge is that, while in the data center everyone is consolidated around […] HCI – that same infrastructure doesn’t work on the small devices that run in retail stores, factory floors, or oil rigs.”
To tackle this issue, Sunlight NexVisor HCI SIM 4.0 now introduces compatibility with on-premise installations, as well as a beta version that can run in Equinix, Microsoft Azure, Google Cloud Platform and Oracle Cloud.
In addition, the updated version also gives enterprises the ability to back up their edge clusters to S3 storage in NFS format on an automated schedule via the new Sunlight’s Open Backup Provider Interface.
Finally, Sunlight.io has added pluggable driver support to its HCI SIM for a wide range of network devices, including Mellanox and Intel, as well as selected highly integrated edge hardware devices.
“This new release makes manageability of large-scale edge deployments even simpler,” Zografos concluded.
The release of the new software comes months after Sunlight.io commissioned Omdia research to look into the challenges of deploying applications at the edge.
