Sunlight.io injects new funding, leadership’ to scale edge computing platform offering

Sunlight.io, an edge infrastructure company, announced that Valedor Partners had joined its series A investment round alongside existing investors Robert Bosch Venture Capital and OpenOcean, bringing total funding for Sunlight now to $20M. According to Sunlight, the funds will enhance US-focused commercial growth. Further, Sunlight plans to expand its edge-as-a-service infrastructure platform and partner with companies such as Lenovo and Avnet Integrated.

Valedor Partner David Bloch commented on the news and said, “With its super small footprint, Sunlight is perfect for the low-power devices used at the edge of the network, one of the fastest-growing parts of corporate IT spend in everything from defense to energy, quick service retail, and manufacturing, where a new generation of apps requires instant processing and storage power.”

Additionally, Sunlight will appoint Tom Flink as its new CEO. According to Sunlight, Flink is a deep tech advisor and leader with profound experience, having served as an executive in Citrix Systems, RES Software, Forcepoint and Instart Logic.

Sunlight’s founder and CTO Julian Chesterfield also welcomes the addition of Valedor Partners and Tom Flink as CEO. “The injection of enhanced leadership and capital will allow us to grow our sales, product and engineering focus and launch new features, including the first full hyperconverged stack to support the Arm-CPU-based Nvidia Jetson for AI and video analytics applications,” he said.

According to the company, Sunlight Edge offers a secure and cost-effective infrastructure that enables real-time analysis and action based on edge data. The company says that it facilitates easy management of applications and infrastructure at the edge with efficient, ruggedized hardware for full isolation, security and high availability.

At the Cloud Excellence Awards 2022, Sunlight.io was awarded “Product of the Year” for its software-defined hyperconverged infrastructure (HCI) solution.
