Solinftec grows presence in Canada with edge robot for agriculture

Agribusiness company Solinftec announced its entry into Canada with a partnership between Stone Farms and the University of Saskatchewan to deploy its robotic platform as an aid for farmers.

The company will launch its Solix Ag Robotics platform at Stone Farms to meet the needs of Canadian farmers and improve the algorithm for identifying weeds. The robot and the platform is linked to the company’s artificial intelligence platform ‘Alice AI,’ which is designed to scan for crop health and nutrition, disease, insects, and weeds, and monitor the field ecosystem and provide real-time insights.

Solinftec says Solix Ag Robotics looks to aid farmers and agronomists with insights to bolster yields, improve the usage of inputs, and lower environmental impact by reducing risks related to chemical and biological pesticides through more efficient and precise targeting. The company aims to have it commercially available for the 2023 season for wheat crops.

“Technology and how it is implemented in agriculture will play an even more critical role in our future,” says Rob Stone, owner of Stone Farms, “We know Solinftec continues to innovate for the better of the agriculture economy and the addition of their robotics platform will only enhance our work together. We are excited about the possibility for this technology to improve the way we manage inputs with enhanced real-time information.”

Besides a partnership with Stone Farms, Solinftec will also collaborate with the University of Saskatchewan to validate field results offered by Solix Ag Robotics.

Britaldo Hernandez, Solinftec’s CEO, says, “At Solinftec, I’m proud we continue in our dedication to evolve agriculture practices in close partnerships with local farmers. With our expansion into Canada in 2021, we are learning so much about the farms, the business processes, and agricultural needs. We value how our partnerships allow us to innovate at a local level with new technologies – like with our new robot.”

In March, Solinftech raised $60 million in a growth investment round led by Lightsmith Group.
