SolidRun launches new SBC equipped with Hailo-8 AI processor
SolidRun, a System on Module (SOM) solutions and embedded systems provider, has released the new Hummingboard 8P Edge AI. According to the company, this single-board computer (SBC) enables engineers to accelerate time to market for AI products at the edge.
Sasha Strizhiver, the embedded product line manager at SolidRun, says the company is dedicated to simplifying embedded systems and empowering engineers to “innovate without constraints.”
Strizhiver adds that SolidRun believes in “enabling our customers to focus solely on realizing their product vision.”
According to company executives, the kit provides engineers with flexibility by allowing them to execute lightweight machine learning models on the embedded network accelerator of the i.MX 8M Plus SoC. Additionally, it enables the running of complex models on the Hailo-8 AI accelerator. SolidRun also offers engineers a Board Support Package (BSP) to facilitate the setup and testing of AI models using the Hailo-8 processor.
The Hummingboard 8P Edge AI supports computer vision, image and object recognition, surveillance, smart cities and IoT. The SBC kit enables the integration of Basler MIPI-CSI or USB 3.0 cameras in computer vision applications. It additionally supports AI analysis of streaming video and is compatible with HDMI/USB touchscreen displays for interactive AI applications.
The kit features SolidRun’s i.MX 8M Plus SOM, paired with a Hailo-8 M.2 PCIe module, delivers a performance of up to 28 TOPS. This SBC solution also supports AI frameworks such as TensorFlow, TensorFlow Lite, Keras, PyTorch and ONNX.
Yaron Ofer, regional general manager at Hailo, sees the Hummingboard 8P Edge AI SBC from SolidRun as a breakthrough in edge AI development solutions.

The Hummingboard 8P Edge AI is a compact device that can convert into a NUC-style computer. Encased in aluminum, this technology is designed for commercial and industrial applications and can withstand temperatures ranging from -40° to 85° C.
In 2022, SolidRun unveiled the SolidWAN platform. This solution offers hardware support for software-defined wide area networks (SD-WAN) and network security applications. With various sizes and wired/wireless networking options, the company says this family of SD-WAN hardware platforms provides flexibility and scalability for businesses.
