Siemens Industrial Edge Ecosystem welcomes Festo

Festo, an automation technology company, has announced its partnership with Siemens, an industrial and smart infrastructure solution provider, at the Hannover Messe trade fair.

As part of the partnership, Festo has joined the Siemens Industrial Edge Ecosystem and is launching its Festo AX Data Access app on the Siemens Industrial Edge Marketplace, an independent app store for industrial customers.

According to both companies, the integrated IoT solutions offered on the Siemens Industrial Edge platform provide customers with benefits, such as reduced manual software maintenance, improved maintenance processes, lower energy consumption and enhanced quality.

Dr. Oliver Niese, who heads the digital business at Festo, highlights the importance of this partnership for both the companies and its customers: “This gives Festo an additional sales channel for industrial customers in the areas of mechanical engineering and production. Users benefit from the opportunity to purchase apps from different providers in a single place, to install them and run them at the machines on the shop floor.”

The Siemens Industrial Edge Marketplace is a cross-vendor app store, launched in October 2021, that allows industrial customers to buy various software components. By leveraging edge computing, the platform processes data at its source. The company says that Festo AX Industrial apps, such as AX Data Access, can be combined with applications from Festo, Siemens and third parties to create new solutions.

The Festo AX Data Access connectivity solution enables customers to integrate Festo components with Siemens Industrial Edge for data analysis. This facilitates the development of monitoring solutions. Additionally, Festo plans to offer AI-based industrial apps on the Siemens Industrial Edge platform.

Rainer Brehm, CEO of factory automation at Siemens, emphasizes the value of collaboration: “At Siemens, we want to add even more partners to the Industrial Edge Ecosystem, especially those in the field of automation. A larger selection increases flexibility for our customers, who can build individual IoT solutions from Siemens and partner modules.”

Earlier this year, Siemens and Microsoft joined forces to leverage generative artificial intelligence for industrial companies. Their collaboration involves integrating Siemens’ Teamcenter software with Microsoft’s Teams platform and Azure OpenAI Service language models.
