Scale Computing raises $55M to expand edge computing offerings

Scale Computing has raised $55 million to invest in technological advancements in virtualization, edge computing, and hyperconverged solutions, the company announced. The company will also restructure existing debt and invest more into research and development. The round was led by Morgan Stanley Expansion Capital.

“The technological advantage of Scale Computing’s edge computing platform solves endemic customer problems through enhanced resiliency, manageability and efficacy of their IT infrastructures,” said Pete D. Chung, managing director and head of Morgan Stanley Expansion Capital. “We are thrilled to help the company build upon their success with this funding.”

Scale Computing’s “SC//Platform” enables enterprises to manage edge applications at scale and also keep them running as errors occur. The autonomous management platform uses artificial intelligence to replace human administrators to deliver a great degree of accuracy, according to the company.

With the growing adoption of edge computing applications that demand complex IT infrastructure, enterprises struggle to keep up with the escalating burden of complex management tasks. Scale Computing’s platform provides the capability to run edge applications and process the edge sensor data outside centralized data centers, the company says.

The SC Platform is an ecosystem to run edge applications with all the software, hardware, and services required. Other products, such as SC HyperCore, SC Hardware, and SC Fleet Manager enable enterprises to efficiently run edge infrastructure at scale. SC HyperCore software is a “cost-efficient” solution to deliver on-premise edge computing performance and comes with a disaster recovery mechanism. While SC Hardware gives the ability to deploy, manage, and self-heal the infrastructure through hardware support.

Distributed edge deployments require a completely different approach, said Jeff Ready, CEO of Scale Computing. “Scale Computing has continually met the challenges of this fast-growing market,” he said, adding that “A growing number of enterprises are implementing the tremendous time and cost savings found in SC Platform for the edge and we are proud to have the support of Morgan Stanley as we continue to expand.”

Scale Computing recently announced a collaboration with Wasabi Technology in light to provide reliable and efficient storage management for hybrid cloud storage. As part of the partnership, the companies aim to allow enterprises to deploy and manage their edge locations with cloud-like orchestration.
