PacketFabric networking services expand hybrid cloud access with pricing, buildout strategy

This is a guest post by Phil Shih, Managing Director and Founder of Structure Research.

PacketFabric, a provider of networking services via a software-defined networking platform, is looking to make an impact with enterprise customers by advocating flat rate pricing as it expands its geographic reach.

Seeing the growth in hybrid cloud as an opportunity, PacketFabric announced lower pricing in order to make it more cost-effective for businesses to use services from multiple cloud providers. PacketFabric’s new pricing is $100 per month for hosted hybrid cloud connections up to 1Gbps, for both metro and long-haul capacity in the United States and Europe. Pricing for 5Gbps and below has also been reduced.

multi cloud connectivity problem

Pricing is one aspect of the challenge, but distance between an enterprise and its cloud provider is another challenge which the company is addressing by continuing to build out its Network-as-a-Service footprint in primary and edge data center locations. In December 2020, the company announced Salt Lake City is the latest addition to its map, bringing its platform to Databank’s SLC1 and SLC2 facilities, Aligned’s SLC01 data center and Flexential’s SLC04 and SLC05 sites.

“PacketFabric believes physical and topologic distance should be all but irrelevant. That’s why we are introducing Flat Rate Pricing for Cloud Connectivity of 1G and below, and reducing our pricing for 5G and below. It’s not ‘get to the cloud,’ it’s ‘get to all the clouds!’” said x in a recent blog post.

Analysis

Salt Lake City is both an emerging edge market on its own and a viable option for serving the western United States, making it a logical expansion point for Packet Fabric.

PacketFabric goes to market through service providers and works closely with data center and MSP partners across the edge infrastructure ecosystem. This will continue to be an area of focus and the hire of Michael Glickman, a former senior Cisco executive with extensive service provider and channel experience, speaks to that direction.
