Northstar acquires Compass Quantum to expand modular edge and defense solutions

Northstar Technologies Group has acquired majority ownership of Compass Quantum (formerly Compass Edgepoint Systems), a subsidiary of Compass Datacenters, to drive Quantum’s growth in modular data center solutions.

Quantum will operate as a business unit under Northstar, divided into Northstar Federal and Northstar Enterprise and Defense, while Compass Datacenters remains a strategic partner.

The acquisition aims to meet growing demand for modular data centers in sectors such as defense, military, AI, and edge computing, leveraging Northstar’s expertise in fiber-reinforced polymer composites.

Quantum’s modular data centers are lightweight, durable, sustainable, and designed for rapid deployment in harsh environments. The solution offers a fully managed service model, enabling organizations to structure costs as operating expenses while providing end-to-end lifecycle support.

“Northstar is an exceptional company with modular design and construction woven into its DNA, making the Quantum solution a seamless fit within their portfolio,” says Tony Grayson, General Manager of Compass Quantum and incoming President of both business lines. “They’re an ideal partner—not just because of Northstar’s deep market presence in every sector Quantum serves, but also due to their strong partnership with Owens Corning, whose innovative materials power our deployments. Northstar’s unmatched expertise in composite and modular construction brings tremendous value to our customers, and their scalable production capabilities ensure we can deliver Quantum units anywhere in the world, at any volume.”

Quantum units are built with advanced materials, are 100% recyclable, and align with sustainability goals, featuring lower carbon footprints and resilience to extreme weather conditions.

The acquisition strengthens Northstar’s position in global markets, enhances its ability to deliver innovative solutions, and supports the transition to energy-efficient composite materials.

Financial terms of the acquisition were not disclosed, and Quantum is advised by retired military leaders and partnered with major companies to be announced.
