Nexcom selects Hailo-8 AI accelerator for its next-gen AI vehicular telematics solution
Israeli chip specialist Hailo has partnered with Nexcom, a computer hardware manufacturer, to launch Nexcom’s next-generation AI vehicular telematics solution. Nexcom’s VTC 1021 has integrated the compact Hailo-8 AI accelerator module — enabling high performance and power efficiency while delivering up to 13 tera-operations per second (TOPS).
The tiny Hailo-8 AI accelerator module for AI applications supports TensorFlow and ONNX AI frameworks, offering improved functionality to the Intel-powered VTC 1021 fanless in-vehicle computer Hailo AI edge telematics solution. A built-in Intel Atom processor along with the Hailo AI module and U-Blox M8N GPS meets the demand for telematics applications such as infotainment, fleet management, dispatching system and mobile video surveillance.
“Our partnership with Hailo allows us to offer our customers advanced AI solutions which can power sectors such as public transportation and fleet management with more scalable, better-performing solutions,” said Jay Liu, Vice President at Nexcom. “Our joint platform provides vehicles enhanced capabilities, including state-of-the-art applications which can vastly improve the driving experience as well as safety, ushering in a new era of smart transportation,” he noted.
The collaboration will between Nexcom and Hailo will upgrade the operational efficiency of public transit and fleet management systems to help bring smart connectivity systems onboard. Through its compact form factor and fanless design, the in-vehicular telematics solution can be fitted into limited space to withstand demanding automotive conditions. The onboard Hailo AI accelerator delivers high performance for edge devices through efficiently running deep neural network applications that previously required cloud computing.
