Monnit boosts IoT security with end-to-end data authentication platform

Monnit has introduced SensorPrints, an end-to-end IoT data authentication platform for low-power wireless sensors based on a unique device fingerprint, the company announced.

Like human fingerprints, chips and devices can generate unique digital “fingerprints.” Some security approaches leverage device characteristics (environmental and physical environment, while Monnit creates a digital fingerprint by using source-generated data from the sensor which is then verified at the application layer by using a cryptographic hash function on the generated tokens and easily integrates with iMonnit for fast deployment. It features open sensor data via the Monnit Mine platform, which supports aggregators such as Amazon Web Services and Microsoft Azure, or the user’s proprietary IoT platform. SensorPrints delivers data security via 256-bit SHA3 authentication and is ready to be resold through Monnit IoTvantage partner platform.

“Many believed that legacy IT security would suffice as the IoT matured, and this has often proven catastrophic,” said Brad Walters, Monnit CEO, in a prepared statement. “With SensorPrints, Monnit is providing superior authenticated data encryption at the point of generation all the way to consumption for analytics and action. This is the feature needed by enterprise CTOs and business owners who have been waiting for full-coverage security before deploying new IoT technologies.”

The platform is part of Monnit’s sensing solutions portfolio of more than 80 wireless types of sensors, wireless controllers and wireless gateways, accessible for both commercial and industrial enterprise business monitoring applications. SensorPrints data authentication is available for Monnit Wireless Sensors users.
