LiquidStack launches single-phase immersion cooling for data centers
LiquidStack, a provider of data center liquid cooling solutions, has introduced its new single-phase liquid cooling solution to expand into the DataTank product portfolio.
LiquidStack’s newly unveiled solution enables data centers to transition from power-hungry air cooling to energy-efficient and environmentally friendly immersion cooling. The company says that its single-phase liquid cooling technology surpasses thermal guidelines for high-performance computing applications like Artificial Intelligence.
LiquidStack’s solution utilizes flow technology and dynamics to improve heat transfer to achieve a performance of over 110kW with W32 water. These results surpass other single-phase liquid immersion products, which typically offer less than 100kW per full-size tank in similar conditions, the company says.
Joe Capes, LiquidStack’s CEO, affirms that LiquidStack is committed to supporting the future of AI and other high-computing processes.
“Since LiquidStack’s launch, our mission has always been to become a full-service provider of the most advanced liquid cooling solutions in the market, and our new single-phase offering is a key step toward completing our liquid cooling technology stack,” Capes notes.
The company also adds that the new eco-friendly offering utilizes non-hazardous dielectric fluids and provides a cost-effective total cost of ownership (TCO).
LiquidStack’s single-phase liquid cooling solution provides server scalability as the company says it occupies the same space as four standard racks. It is also compatible with various IT form factors.
According to LiquidStack, this solution offers expandable resiliency with an N to 2N Tier IV redundancy system. It aims to simplify installation and serviceability with user-friendly features for more straightforward deployment. It also integrates with LiquidStack’s data center solutions, Trane chillers and services.
The cooling solution will become available for quotation and pre-order on December 1, 2023 with an anticipated delivery timeline of Q3 2024. The company will announce the final product name and additional product details on the pre-order date.
In September, LiquidStack introduced two new prefabricated modular solutions: MicroModular and MegaModular. MicroModular includes a single 48U DataTank, while MegaModular can accommodate up to six 48U DataTanks. These modular solutions enable businesses to quickly deploy computing resources at the local and regional edge while taking advantage of the energy efficiency, heat rejection and water savings offered by liquid immersion cooling.
Trane Technologies leveraged its expertise in HVAC solutions to collaborate with LiquidStack and develop MicroModular and MegaModular outside heat rejection components.
