Lantronix and Safe Pro bring on-device AI threat detection to defense drones

Edge AI and IoT solutions provider Lantronix and Safe Pro Group have partnered on AI-powered edge intelligence for defense and autonomous systems.

The partnership centers on real-time, on-device threat detection for drones and autonomous systems using Qualcomm Snapdragon series chips, without the need to be connected to the cloud.

“Lantronix is at the center of an expanding ecosystem in which payload, compute and connectivity come together to power the next generation of unmanned and autonomous systems,” says Saleel Awsare, president and CEO of Lantronix. “Our partnership with Safe Pro Group furthers this vision, bringing AI-enabled threat detection directly to the edge. Together, we are shaping the future of real-time intelligence where our technology becomes the trusted foundation for defense and autonomous platforms worldwide.”

Safe Pro’s SPOTD AI algorithms will be ported to Lantronix Open-Q System-on-Module (SOM) solutions to make them more secure and faster.

The cooperative effort supports defense applications, including the U.S. Army’s Short-Range Reconnaissance (SRR) program and incorporates outputs to the Android Tactical Assault Kit (ATAK).

Open-Q 5165RB SOM is a product of Lantronix that provides features such as machine vision, neural networks and power-efficient edge computing to enable cutting-edge AI capabilities.

The worldwide drone market is expected to be $57.8 billion by 2030, offering substantial growth prospects for Lantronix in defense and commercial markets.

Lantronix intends to enhance and scale its edge AI strategy, grow its ecosystem, and support scalable high-margin solutions for defense-grade deployments. It recently unveiled new edge AI solutions at CES.
