Lambda secures $480M to scale AI cloud amid rising demand for GPU infrastructure

Lambda, a GPU cloud provider, raised $480 million in Series D funding, bringing its total equity capital to $863 million.

The funding round was co-led by Andra Capital and SGW, with participation from investors like NVIDIA, ARK Invest, and others.

Lambda focuses on providing AI cloud infrastructure, AI inferencing (that can be extended to edge devices) and open-source AI tools, offering hosted access to open source models like DeepSeek R1 providing developers with more access to pre-trained models that can be optimized for edge use cases.

Companies leveraging AI at the edge (retail, industrial automation, autonomous vehicles, etc.) could use Lambda’s infrastructure for both training and inference workloads, dynamically shifting between cloud and edge as needed.

The investment will accelerate the expansion of Lambda Cloud, Lambda Model Inference API, and Lambda Chat AI Assistant.

Lambda introduced self-serve, on-demand GPU clusters for AI model training and launched the Lambda Inference API and Chat AI Assistant. The company also achieved SOC 2 Type II compliance, ensuring a secure public cloud environment.

“In a landscape where speed and scalability are paramount, Lambda’s deep understanding of AI hardware and software provides developers with critical infrastructure to stay ahead of the curve,” says Paul Tuan, Managing Partner of Andra Capital. “We’re confident that Lambda’s solutions will be central to powering the next wave of AI-driven innovation and delivering tangible value across industries.”

Lambda’s mission is to make AI accessible and affordable, enabling developers to build, test, and deploy AI products at scale.

JPMorgan also acted as the private placement agent for the financing.
