JFrog pushes DevOps capabilities to Linux and IoT edge devices at scale
JFrog has announced the public availability of the newly introduced JFrog Connect, a solution to help enterprises monitor, manage and secure remote IoT devices deployed at the edge.
JFrog Connect is a DevOps platform that can be integrated into the JFrog Platform, which allows effective management of thousands of IoT edge devices through operational models and interactive user interface across cloud, on-premise networks, and multi-cloud deployments. The integration with the JFrog Platform provides developers with the ability to automate DevSecOps activities across the complete software development lifecycle, the company says.
“The massively distributed nature of edge and IoT expands the enterprise attack surface, and also exacerbates operational, cross-functional software update workflow challenges,” said Yoav Landman, co-founder and CTO at JFrog. “JFrog Connect effectively helps companies manage automatic, continuous delivery of secure software updates from developers’ keystrokes to any distributed edge or fleet of connected things while fortifying their software supply chain against emerging attack vectors.”
According to the Eclipse Foundation’s 2021 IoT & Edge Developer Survey report, IoT developers, architects, and decision-makers have ranked security at 46%, connectivity at 38%, and deployment at 31% as their top three concerns. To solve these concerns, JFrog says Connect is a secure solution with the capability of over-the-air updates. The low-code, drag and drop interface also provide developers to build custom logic diagrams, including containers, commands, release bundles, and pulling from Git repositories.
Other features include automatic rollback, robust container support, artifact security and distribution, real-time monitoring, edge device integration with control, comprehensive management, and more. The real-time monitoring essentially provides visibility of an IoT edge device’s current state, resources, data and applications. The integration of these IoT edge devices empowers developers to connect, gain insights, and manage a range of Linux-based devices. There are several industries where JFrog Connect can be integrated, some of these are retail, hospitality, energy and utilities, and manufacturing.
JFrog recently announced the acquisition of Upswift which drove the software company to deliver a complete device management platform. The purchase of Upswift identified the integration of CI/CD and SecOps workflows into the modern IoT edge devices to provide management of deployed products.
