Izuma Networks completes acquisition of Pelion’s device management business

Izuma Networks, an edge computing services provider, recently acquired Pelion’s Device Management business, an IoT services platform. The companies did not release the value of the deal to the public.

Izuma Networks now plans to focus on the edge computing services market. In addition, Izuma will use a SoftBank Group investment to hire new talent and enhance IoT offerings with a focus on development and dev-ops.

The Izuma Cloud is a unified solution for both IoT deployment and management of devices. It’s a globally available edge computing and Internet of Things management service.

With the acquisition of Pelion, Izuma aims to become a leader in edge computing and IoT services. The company offers an Apache 2.0 licensed software stack called Izuma Edge. It can live on any x86 or Arm 64-bit class product. Customers may deploy apps using Kubernetes APIs and get remote management services for operators deploying dozens to hundreds of remote gateways or edge servers.

Travis McCollum and Ed Hemphill established Izuma Networks at the beginning of 2022.. McCollum and Hemphill are the former founders of WigWag, an Austin, Texas-based startup acquired by Arm in 2019.

According to the company, WigWag lessened the load of routing and home automation by making physical devices more manageable, secure, efficient and automatic. The WigWag platform used an open-source runtime deviceJS, removing competing IoT protocols’ complexities and providing a unified programming language for rapidly building applications and devices.

Founded in 2012, WigWag successfully raised $4.3 million by 2016.
