IOTech launches Edge Xrt, a data connectivity solution for industrial systems

IOTech, an edge software solutions provider, has released Edge Xrt 2.1, a data connectivity solution for industrial systems.

It features a normalized OPC UA data interface, OT device discovery capabilities and improved performance and scalability.

“With its configurable, high-performance and embeddable connectivity capabilities, Edge Xrt is unique in its ability to serve the needs of the growing industrial IoT market,” says Andrew Foster, the product director at IOTech.

The company says that Edge Xrt expedites the launch of novel edge systems, independent of hardware provider or operating system. It can be deployed as a native Linux application, containerized, or embedded as a library into a third-party software stack, allowing users complete deployment flexibility.

According to the company, Edge Xrt enables concurrent connections to different OT device endpoints using various industrial protocols, allowing for high-volume and low-latency data read/write. The platform enables high-performance edge computing for various vertical markets and provides integration between real-time edge applications, enterprise IT, SCADA and cloud applications.

Other Edge Xrt features include an OPC UA server for aggregating and normalizing OT data, extended device discovery capabilities for EtherNet/IP endpoints and scalability and performance improvements to enable greater access to OT devices.

“It provides a rich set of OT connectivity capabilities that make it easy for our customers to access their valuable industrial data,” continues Foster. “In most cases, this is through simple configuration or dynamic device discovery and without the need for custom code.”

IOTech recently joined forces with King Steel Machinery Co. Ltd. to upgrade the performance and connection of its manufacturing tools. King Steel chose IOTech’s cutting-edge industrial edge software platform to access and evaluate real-time data from edge sensors to enhance efficiencies.
