Iberdrola taps Barbara for edge computing overhaul in smart grid substations
Barbara, the industrial edge platform provider is partnering with Iberdrola to develop edge computing firmware for secondary substations.
The project aims to enhance Iberdrola’s substation sensorization and automation capabilities.
“Our aim is for this project to evolve into a successful Living Lab, where Iberdrola´s partners can contribute their edge solutions, continuously enhancing Iberdrola’s edge ecosystem,” remarks Peter Rawlins, VP of Business Development at Barbara.
The initiative will be implemented at the Global Smart Grid Innovation Hub in Bilbao and the Melancolicos substation laboratory. Virtualization of hardware and software in substations will lead to cost savings and operational flexibility. The project is expected to improve substation efficiency and service quality over an 18-month period.
