GSMA and Automotive Edge Computing Consortium forge alliance to advance 5G-connected vehicles
GSMA and Automotive Edge Computing Consortium (AECC) have signed an agreement to enhance connected vehicle services using 5G technology.
The collaboration aims to ensure interoperability and compatibility across various connected vehicle platforms through the GSMA Open Gateway initiative. GSMA Fusion will connect the automotive sector with connectivity providers to facilitate digital transformation and service monetization.
The partnership will accelerate discussions among automotive manufacturers, mobile operators, and developers to create and test new use cases.
“Through the GSMA Fusion initiative, the automotive sector now has a seat at the table to voice what it requires from the telecommunications sector,” said Henry Calvert, Head of Networks at GSMA. ”Advanced connectivity and edge computing create tremendous opportunities to digitally transform the industry, helping it enhance safety, efficiency, and sustainability, while driving innovation in autonomous driving and next-generation mobility.”
Key technologies being explored include APIs for in-vehicle services, driver assistance, and edge AI services.
The GSMA Open Gateway initiative involves over 64 mobile operator groups and aims to simplify access to network capabilities for developers. Industry leaders, including Toyota and Oracle, participated in discussions on innovations in automotive technology at a recent meeting in Berlin.
The partnership is expected to drive advancements in safety, efficiency, and sustainability within the automotive industry.
