German consortium selects IS-Wireless private 5G network to support Industry 4.0

The CampusDynA consortium, a German industrial group comprised of Gestalt Robotics, T-Systems, OSRAM, Fraunhofer and Werner-von-Siemens Center for Industry and Science has chosen IS-Wireless to provide a 5G network based on the Open RAN model. This is set to be deployed in Berlin later this year.

“We are pleased to be able to work with IS-Wireless in the future. A stable private 5G network creates the basis for novel edge-controlled AMRs that communicate with our NavigateSYS software,” says Professor Jens Lambrecht, the managing director of Gestalt Robotics. AMR stands for Autonomous Mobile Robot, which refers to a type of robot that has the ability to navigate and operate in an environment without direct human intervention.

The consortium explores the potential of Open RAN private networks in various industrial applications, including autonomous mobile robotics and optimized energy use in production plants.

“With the test field at the Werner-von-Siemens Centre for Industry and Science in Berlin, we have the opportunity at an early stage to practically test the latest technology trends such as Open RAN-based campus network,” says Lutz Schneider, the product owner of autonomous logistics at T-Systems.

IS-Wireless will provide a complete Radio Access Network (RAN), which includes O-RU (radio units), DU (distributed units) and CU (centralized units). The company will also provide near-RT RIC (RAN Intelligent Controller) with xApps to ensure the necessary network performance for connected and autonomous mobile robots.

Slawomir Pietrzyk, CEO and founder of IS-Wireless says he is proud to offer their latest technology in the form of private 5G.

“It’s both the functionality and quality that matters a lot, especially in the Industry 4.0 applications,” Pietrzyk adds.
