FogHorn and Enecom partner on edge solutions for hydroelectric power generation in Japan
FogHorn, a developer of edge AI software, has entered a new partnership with Japan-based electric power provider Energia Communications (Enecom).
As part of the new collaboration, the FogHorn Lightning Edge AI Platform will be deployed at the Chugoku Electric Power hydroelectric facility to help operators improve power generation by automating generators, as well as enhance operations efficiency and workplace safety.
“We’re proud to help address the long-term operational, safety, and compliance goals at Chugoku Electric Power through our partnership with Energia Communications,” commented Yuta Endo, VP/GM of APAC Operation of Business Development at FogHorn.
According to the company’s website, Chugoku Electric Power currently employs more than 5,000 workers across 102 hydroelectric power generation facilities in the Chugoku region.
Since the company operates according to a 24-hour model, the implementation of FogHorn’s Internet of Things (IoT) solutions will aid Chugoku Electric Power in addressing the labor shortage it faces in Japan, as well as streamline operations.
Deploying FogHorn’s Lightning Edge AI Platform will also enable the company to collect advanced data through remote, real-time analytics which, in turn, will enhance both decision-making processes and safety standards.
Moreover, the platform’s edge capabilities can detect early signs of equipment failures to enable engineers to quickly mitigate issues.
“Resulting from FogHorn’s strong business alliance with Energia Communications, we were enlisted to improve operations to drive sustainability and ensure green energy sources stay online by harnessing the power of IoT and edge capabilities,” Endo added.
Culminating in the deployment of the Lightning Edge AI Platform at the Chugoku Electric Power plan, the collaboration between FogHorn and Enecom actually started in 2017, when the companies officially launched a demonstration test.
In the following four years, the pilot program became extremely successful, with the Japanese Ministry of Economy, Trade, and Industry (METI) defining it as an “industrial security advancement promotion cost subsidy.”
The success of early operations translated into FogHorn and Enecom officially beginning operations in April 2021 and unveiling their renewed partnership earlier this week.
The announcement comes weeks after FogHorn was named Overall Leader, Top Innovator, and Top Implementer by ABI Research’s vendor assessment on the IoT Edge Analytics report.
