Emerson, Nozomi Networks partner to strengthen cybersecurity for organizations

The risk of cyberattacks on critical infrastructure grows as the world becomes increasingly digitized. In fact, according to a report from GE, 67% of organizations with critical infrastructure suffered from at least one cyber attack in the past year. In 2022, analysts expect ransomware alone to cost companies over $20 billion.

To help protect against these threats, global software and technology organization Emerson has teamed up with Nozomi Networks, an OT (operational technology) and IoT (Internet of Things) security provider.

Under the terms of the agreement, Emerson will offer Nozomi Networks’ advanced solutions for industrial control system cyber resiliency and real-time operational visibility to customers worldwide. The deal combines Nozomi Networks’ OT & IoT security and visibility capabilities with Emerson’s DeltaV distributed control system (DCS), consulting and professional services.

The agreement will help Emerson’s customers strengthen their overall cybersecurity posture. It will also reduce the risk of downtime because of cyberattacks or process anomalies. As downtime costs continue to rise, this agreement addresses a critical need for businesses across many industries.

“By teaming with Nozomi Networks, Emerson is enhancing our customers’ immediate access to OT network visibility, security and asset intelligence that integrates seamlessly with our DeltaV DCS and is fully supported by the Emerson Cybersecurity Services organization,” said Alexandre Peixoto, cybersecurity business director of Emerson’s Process Systems and Software business.

“Together, we are delivering the deepest possible industrial process expertise, a superior solution and a proven track record serving the most demanding industrial customers,” he added.

DeltaV is a suite of software and technologies used to improve plant operations by intuitively harnessing predictive technologies that the company claims are easy to maintain and operate. The technology aims to connect people, processes, and production within an end user setting.

Nozomi Networks’ OT & IoT threat, anomaly detection, and actionable intelligence will complement the DeltaV portfolio. Nozomi Networks’ capabilities can help customers quickly see and respond to cyber threats before they affect process controls. In addition, its vulnerability assessment capabilities will help customers identify OT devices that hackers may exploit in cyberattacks. Nozomi Networks’ asset discovery capabilities will combine active and passive techniques to identify OT and IoT assets safely.

“We are teaming with Emerson to address the growing cybersecurity concerns that are an everyday reality for modern automation processes,” said Nozomi Networks CEO Edgard Capdevielle. “Industrial organizations rely on Emerson for its innovative technologies and solutions. This agreement furthers our joint commitment to help protect critical infrastructure around the world.”

Analysis

The agreement between Emerson and Nozomi Networks is a significant step forward in protecting critical infrastructure from cyber threats.

DeltaV is a DCS that provides intelligent control and straightforward operation and maintenance. When combined with Nozomi Networks’ OT and IoT security solutions, it offers a comprehensive solution for protecting against cyber threats.

As mentioned, the agreement will help Emerson’s customers reduce the risk of downtime because of cyberattacks. This is a critical need for many organizations as the cost of downtime continues to rise.
