Edge-cloud alliance powers ‘Internet of Forests’ to protect rainforests and connect communities

Hyper-converged multi-access network provider Veea, O.N.E. Amazon, and AECOM are collaborating to create the Internet of Forests (IoF) to protect rainforests and empower local communities.

The first IoF project is being showcased at the United Nations Biodiversity Conference (COP 16) that’s currently underway in Cali, Colombia. The initiative aims to monitor rainforest health and connect rural communities digitally for sustainable benefits.

IoF supports the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals, promoting prosperity while protecting the environment.

“When we make the physical wonders of our planet visible in the digital realm, we unlock new opportunities for conservation, engagement, and economic growth,” said Allen Salmasi, co-founder and CEO of Veea. “With advanced solutions like digital twins, IoF offers transformative capabilities that can quantify and visualize natural environments in entirely new ways to enhance conservation efforts to build a sustainable future.”

The project will utilize advanced technologies such as digital twins, AI, and hybrid edge-cloud computing. It focuses on preserving the ecosystem of Chiribiquete National Park, a UNESCO World Heritage site.

IoF will enable real-time monitoring of environmental conditions, including wildfires and deforestation. The technology will support local communities with satellite-based internet connectivity and sustainable business applications.

Veea’s platform integrates various technologies for efficient data management and cybersecurity.

O.N.E. Amazon aims to enhance economic growth and social well-being in the Amazon region.

AECOM emphasizes the importance of live data for effective and sustainable decision-making in environmental management.

The initiative seeks to address the global decline in biodiversity and promote sustainable management of natural resources. The collaboration highlights the potential of technology to drive conservation efforts and community engagement.
