Edge and IOT alliances sprout in Europe and India
Orange Business Services says it will work with Dell Technologies Inc. and network-access vendor Ekinops S.A. to create universal customer premises equipment. The hardware and software combination will enable Orange Business customers to consolidate their site connectivity and functionality with virtual network functions management.
Orange Business is a subsidiary of France-based global telecommunications company Orange S.A. Dell Technologies OEM, Embedded & Edge Solutions, will contribute the hardware, and Ekinops is writing the middleware. Taken together, the product will combine enterprise branch server information technology and virtualization management.
The universal customer premises equipment can be installed on a chosen site, and clients can install virtual network functions at that site remotely. Virtual network functions can include routing, software-defined wide area networking and wide area networking (WAN) optimization.
Orange is pitching the new equipment at mid-size to large companies, with shipments beginning this year. No price was disclosed.
Nokia, Bharti partner to address Industry 4.0
Nokia Corp. and one of India’s largest integrated telecommunications companies say they are working together on Industry 4.0 applications including cloud services, the Internet of Things, artificial intelligence, machine learning and edge support.
Joining with Bharti Airtel, Nokia will develop industrial-grade private LTE industrial automation products. The pair also say they will look at possible 5G use cases for businesses.
First on their agenda, however, will be building products for private wireless networks that are secure and reliable over a large geographical network footprint featuring low latency and high data volume.
Their target market is as broad as the area to be served. They are going after banking, financial services and insurance, information technology-enabled services, media and services, and manufacturing and distribution.
