E-con Systems releases AI vision kit based on Qualcomm and Sony platforms

E-con Systems, an original equipment manufacturer of cameras, launched its AI vision kit for machine learning and deep learning models on the edge with parts from Qualcomm and Sony.

The ‘qSmartAI80 CUQ610’ is detailed as being equipped with a 4K MIPI low-light camera based on Sony’s STARVIS IMX415 ultra low-light sensor, VVDN’s system on a module based on Qualcomm’s QCS610 system on a chip, and carrier board.

The company says the kit is designed to enable powerful computing for on-device image processing with thermal efficiency. Some possible applications for the AI vision kit given by E-con Systems include telemedicine robots, dash cameras, and smart checkouts and carts.

“The qSmartAI80 CUQ610 AI Vision kit marks a significant milestone as our first ever camera for Qualcomm QCS series of processors utilizing the state-of-the-art Image Signal Processor of Qualcomm processors,” said Ranjith Kumar, senior product manager at E-con Systems, in a prepared statement.

“The embedded vision applications require consistent image quality from the cameras irrespective of challenging light conditions and customers leverage E-con’s expert IQ tuning and solutioning capability to successfully launch their end products with shortest time-to-market,” he added.

Similar kits include Synaptics’ edge AI evaluation kit for the development and prototyping of AI applications on the edge.
