Couchbase Launches Capella DBaaS on Microsoft Azure Platform

Couchbase Inc announced its Couchbase Capella DBaaS offering on the Microsoft Azure cloud platform. With this capability, Couchbase says its customers can now take advantage of streamlined deployment and maintenance on the Azure platform.

According to Couchbase, Capella on Azure facilitates applications and support for hybrid and multi-cloud approaches from one platform at a reasonable price point.

“With Capella on Microsoft Azure, customers around the world can easily deploy premium experiences as modern applications to run on the trusted Azure platform,” said Jake Zborowski, the general manager of Microsoft Azure Platform at Microsoft Corp. “We’re happy to welcome Couchbase Capella to the growing Azure ecosystem.”

Capella is a managed DBaaS that simplifies database management, reduces cost, and provides flexibility to developers for building applications. Its user-friendly experience and SQL++ query language make it easy to use for developers, leading to faster development times.

Couchbase says Capella offers customers development flexibility, cost efficiency at scale, mobile and IoT app synchronization, high availability, automated scaling and multi-cloud support. It provides millisecond responses for highly interactive applications with best-in-class price performance. It also allows users to build and run applications across cloud service providers and guarantees global data reliability and availability across regions.

“We are investing heavily in making Capella more accessible than ever before to give developers and organizations a cloud database platform to power their most mission-critical applications,” said Scott Anderson, the senior vice president of product management and business operations at Couchbase. “By extending Capella to Azure, we can better support our customers as they deploy innovative applications on the cloud of their choice.”

Couchbase’s Azure compatibility announcement is mainly focused on centralized cloud deployments, but the company is playing a hand in the development of edge applications as well, as noted in CTO Ravi Mayuram’s interview with EdgeIR.

Couchbase was in the news recently for announcing that Arthrex, a minimally invasive surgical tech company, has selected its cloud database platform. The AWS-hosted platform stores and manages surgical data, patient data and metadata, including videos and images from Arthrex devices.
