Cloudflare attains higher FedRAMP authorization to help secure US infrastructure
Cloudflare has announced that it has attained Moderate Status on the US Federal Risk and Authorization Management Program (FedRAMP). With this authorization, Cloudfare now has full authorization to serve US federal agencies, state and local governments and the Defense Industrial Base (DIB).
Cloudflare’s services can be used for protecting remote workforces and core infrastructure using hybrid cloud deployments or on-premise solutions. The company received initial FedRAMP authorization in 2021; the “moderate” status means Cloudflare can offer its services to a broader audience, given that FedRAMP requires more stringent security controls for applications “Where the loss of confidentiality, integrity, and availability would result in serious adverse effects on an agency’s operations, assets, or individuals.”
“Cloudflare has long served the most technical, security-aware agencies like the FBI and US Department of State,” said Matthew Prince, co-founder and CEO of Cloudflare. “With this FedRAMP milestone, Cloudflare can serve more agencies, as well as the companies that sell to them.”
Cloudflare provides security, performance and reliability services to over 40 US Federal Government agencies. In 2021, CISA began using Cloudflare to deliver a DNS resolver solution for FCEB agencies. Cloudflare’s Athenian Project offers free services to state and local election officials, used by more than half of US states in the 2020 election to secure access to their websites.
The Biden administration prioritizes cybersecurity and has shifted the security approach to a Zero Trust framework. The company says that government agencies can take advantage of the Cloudflare platform to meet cyber standards and enhance the delivery of citizen services.
Cloudflare is available via the FedRAMP marketplace.
This autumn, Cloudflare announced its new fund with VCs to assist startup companies building on its Cloudfare Workers platform. The Workers Launchpad Funding Program offers ambitious entrepreneurs up to $1.25 billion in loans, allowing them to grow their businesses.
“If there’s one thing venture capitalists look for in the companies they fund, it’s the potential to achieve significant scale. Startups that build on Cloudflare Workers are building on a platform made to automatically support serious scale,” explained Prince.
