Aramco, Moxa sign Intelligent Integrated Node tech commercialization agreement
Saudi-based Aramco Technologies company and Moxa Inc, specializing in edge connectivity, industrial computing and network infrastructure, have recently signed a formal agreement to further commercialize a jointly developed Intelligent Integrated Node technology.
According to the companies, the Intelligent Integrated Node combines instrumentation control, monitoring and edge computing capabilities into one integrated node. Developed by Moxa and invented by Aramco, it aims to minimize the usage of multiple devices from various manufacturers by offering a unified and fault-tolerant solution.
Aramco says it’s confident that the Intelligent Integrated Node technology can lower capital expenditure and operational expenses while enhancing operational efficiency. Additionally, the technology can improve computing speed and safety in facilities that are heavily reliant on assets, the company says.
“We are grateful to Saudi Aramco Technologies Company for choosing Moxa to commercialize the Intelligent Integrated Node technology,” says Michael Lin, the president at Moxa Inc. “The licensed solution offers greater control and improved efficiency by providing more capacity for capturing and analyzing data from multiple instruments.”
Michael Lin also emphasizes that the solution is not limited solely to the oil and gas industry; it can include other sectors such as power and utilities, renewables, water and transportation.
The co-developed Intelligent Integrated Node technology has received industry recognition by winning awards such as the 2018 Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques Prize for Inventors and the 2020 International Society of Automation (ISA) Excellence-in-Innovation Award.
“We are very pleased to have partnered with Moxa for commercializing this technology worldwide in all technology sectors,” says Motaz Al Mashouk, senior vice president of engineering services at Aramco.
According to Motaz Al Mashouk, the Intelligent Integrated Node technology’s key feature is combining several devices into a single, dependable automation device. He believes implementing this solution will lead to reduced costs and increased flexibility and agility for deployment across various applications.
In 2021, Aramco and FogHorn partnered to help Aramco with its digitalization and standardization efforts in multiple facilities. The partnership involved implementing the FogHorn Lightning Edge AI Platform, which utilizes camera sensors via edge computing to process high-bandwidth sensor data.
