Akamai invests in Macrometa as plan to build an edge cloud platform takes shape
Akamai, a cloud infrastructure services provider, has invested in Macrometa Corporation, a global data network and edge computing service provider. As part of the collaboration, Akamai cloud computing will integrate with Macrometa’s global data network to enable developers to build enterprise applications that leverage edge computing services.
This combination will help enterprise customers build, deploy and run global applications and APIs across the edge and cloud. With this partnership, mutual clients can access Akamai’s edge platform with 4,200 points of presence and Akamai cloud computing services based on Linode and AWS, GCP Azure and telecom 5G networks.
“This partnership and technical integration simplify the amount of work and effort that goes into building applications and deploying them on the edge, and it brings a certain level of elegance and velocity that allows faster time to market and a more modern experience of building these types of apps,” said Chetan Venkatesh, founder and CEO at Macrometa.
The companies say that Akamai and Macrometa’s shared vision of a reliable cloud infrastructure resulted in these two companies partnering together to create even better products. Organizations can build enterprise applications with this technology and offer a better customer experience.
Users can access Macrometa’s products through Akamai’s worldwide salesforce. By combining Akamai’s content delivery network with Macrometa’s global delivery network, they can quickly deploy applications at the edge. For example, users can deploy applications in minutes and dynamically create and deliver content anywhere.
Andy Champagne, the Chief Technical Officer of Akamai Labs will also become a non-voting board observer for Macrometa.
“Edge computing has been around for a long time in a read-only mode,” Champagne said in a conversation with Macrometa’s Venkatesh. “At Akamai, we’ve done a bunch of edge computing that’s read with asynchronous writes. But you know, the real thing that we’re interested in is how do you do edge computing with read and synchronous writes?” He noted that the challenge is being approached in real-time by Macrometa; Akamai, having had conversations with customers, believes the two companies together can solve these challenges.
